Study programs of Business Informatics (BA level), Managerial Informatics (MA level) and Informatics and Economics (PhD level) started at the Faculty of Economics of the Technical University of Liberec (CZ) in the year 1993 with idea to offer students theoretical and practical knowledge in management sciences, computer sciences, social and cognitive disciplines, and legal aspects of application of these knowledge into practical life. Programs were based on very close cooperation with business environment. Our aim was to prepare our graduates with appropriate profile to the demands of companies and institutions.
Today is necessary to find new approach of learning process especially on BA and MA levels. The main reason for deep innovation of our programs is that the real business world is through the time totally changed – with plain aspects of SSME approach into real life. During last years we tried to modify - with the cooperation among others also of IBM - some modules on the base of application of SSME principles. Now we decided to innovate whole programs of BA and MA level in consideration of SSME aspects and accredit it by the Accreditation Committee of the Czech Ministry of Education as SSME based learning programs.
Our long term experience with this multidisciplinary integration of theoretical and practical disciplines and project based learning allows us for future with a cooperation of IBM and other business and academic partners to continually improve the studying programs as well as individual modules in the scope of SSME. Benefits of innovative study programs are that profile of our graduates will fulfill expectation and demands of organizations and companies and our graduates will be more successful on labor market.
The Service Science, Management and Engineering (SSME) is a very ambitious approach that plays more and more important role in current world. For successful understanding and application it needs to change “traditional” way of thinking of appropriate decision makers – especially graduates of our universities. To teach university students to think according to SSME means that it is also necessary to change traditional ways of university education.
One of the main tasks is the necessity to integrate multi-disciplinary approach in teaching process based on demands and of prospective employers of our graduates. The innovated study program has to react on today’s increasing service-based economies. Service design, development, marketing and delivery all require methods to make service businesses more efficient and scalable. Students need to obtain combinations depth and breadth knowledge of technology, business, and organizational studies, even at the undergraduate level. The goal of innovated studying course is to nourish productivity, quality, and learning rates across the service sector.
We would like to innovate whole programs of BA and MA level in consideration of SSME aspects and accredit it by the Accreditation Committee of the Czech Ministry of Education as SSME based learning programs.
